Swiss shoegaze outfit Moonpools have released their new single, ‘Never Mind’. Their sound blends the wall of sound textures of UK shoegaze bands like My Bloody Valentine with a melodic, modern pop sensibility. Synths and guitars wail and screech with freedom thanks to incredibly slick production (done by the band at their home studio), while Marcie Myffeler’s distinctive voice jumps out with power, rather than getting lost in a mesh of noise. “I wanted to tell a story about someone trying to comfort a friend,” explains Marcie. “They’re trying to show support and express their understanding. But over the course of the song, the comforter realises they don’t believe the words they’re saying and fall into the same hopelessness and indifference they were aiming to help their friend overcome.” The five-piece are dropping a new EP, Hide And Seek, on April 19th, 2024. -Dan Peeke
